Fr. Jack Izzo

Fr Jack Izzo, S.J. is a transplanted Bostonian who has lived in California most of the last forty years. After ordination in 1980 he worked in film and TV in Southern Californiar for ten years as a screenwriter, consultant and producer. After this he was Director of Communications for the Jesuit Province of Eastern Africa from 1991-1994, taught Journalism at Boston College from 1995 to 2004, and taught film and photography at Loyola College in Chennai, India for a semester in 2004. Most recently he was Chaplain of the Newman Center at U.C. Davis. He joined the KNXT staff in the Fall of 2009.
Before joining the Jesuits in 1971 he first worked in medical radiation engineering, then in systems marketing for IBM, and finally as a professional fine art photographer. He has a B.S. in Physics, an M.B.A. in applied math, an M.F.A. in filmmaking and screenwriting, and an M.Div. in Christology and Atheism studies. He also did a post-grad year in quantitative ecology, at the University of Washington, and a year of spirituality studies at the Jesuit Spirituality Centre, Pymble, Australia.
Over the years he has published articles in areas of international justice; but he is also interested in spirituality, environmental studies, the arts, and the relation between religion and science. Fr. Jack is an outdoors person, and likes ocean kayaking, fishing, hiking and climbing. He has also maintained his interest in outdoor photography, and is an associate of Oceans Studio in Half Moon Bay, CA.
